Thought for Thursday

I want to go back to the 90s before I “realized” bagels were the devil.  I just want my pumpernickel guilt free (please).

Every morning I drive by the Apple store on the way to work.  Every morning there is a line outside.  This is between 8:15-8:30.  If you could see this store in a vacuum you would have ABSOLUTELY no clue there is a recession.  Amazing.

Thursday Thoughts

I am -slowly- making my way through Anna Karenina.  I don’t even want to say how long it is taking me.  The weird thing is…I think I like it but I just can’t seem to finish it.  In fact, I just grabbed a couple of new books from the library.   I think I am losing my attention span.  I blame MTV.

Thursday Thoughts

My mother-in-law told me this is the best piece of advice she ever received.  I think she may be right.

Life isn’t fair.  The sooner you accept that the better off you’ll be.

Why are the legos in my house plotting against me?  First, I know (KNOW) they are multiplying over night.  But, even worse, they are out to get me.  Four hundred square feet of bare floor and I will always – always – step on the one 1/2 in. lego in the room…while carrying laundry…in the dark.  Oh legos, why do you torment me so?

My dad’s family came to Kansas City from Lithuania as part of the great Eastern European migration at the turn of the last century.  I will always wonder if Kansas City was what they pictured America to be like.  If they had known such a place as San Diego existed would they have just kept going…

I know people like to complain about Valentine’s Day being some made up holiday foisted on us by a *ahem* local Greeting Card giant.  And, you know what, I don’t care.  Just like I don’t care when people complain about the commercialization of Christmas or professional athletes in the Olympics.  Grab a couple (or 37 depending on your romantic world view at the time) chocolate covered marshmallow hearts and just enjoy.

Who brought skinny jeans back and why???  If I couldn’t rock leggings in the 80s, I have no chance now.

So, here is my question.  Is it better to go with what’s in style or what looks better on you?  The immediate and obvious answer is the latter.  But…but…we all knew that neighbor, teacher, friend’s mom who wore the same “flattering” pants for two decades.  Rather than appreciating that the cut really suited her midsection, we just thought she looked hopelessly out of date and *dun dun dun dun* frumpy.  Can I handle unflattering?  Cuz I kind of fear frumpy.

If we are sure that we are the only parents out there falling short on the nutritional needs of our young charges, then just who is buying all of the HoHos, Cheeseburger Doritos, Sundae Pop Tarts and Cheez Puffs?  There aren’t that many college students/stoners out there.
